Pack 286 is the original Cub Scout Pack in Odessa Missouri.  Founded in 1940, we are celebrating our 70th Year of Scouting in 2010!

Pack 286 meets on Mondays nights at McQuery Elementary during the School Year.  During the summer we get our Scouts involved in an assortment of activities from Cub Scout Camps to Field Trips.

If you are interested in Scouting, and you are in grades first through fifth, we invite you to come visit us anytime we are having a meeting, or visit one of the other Cub Packs that are in Odessa Missouri.

MEETINGS HAVE MOVED

We are now meeting at the VFW Post here in Odessa Missouri.  A member of the VFW came to us and asked if we would be interested in moving to their banquet room for our meetings.  We brought it up with the Post Commander, checked to make certain that Monday Nights were available, and then took the matter before the membership at their monthly meeting in August.  We are pleased to be moving to this location.  It will solve the problem of not being able to meet on those days that Schools are closed for reasons other than weather.

We encourage all of our Scout Parents, and any supporter of Scouting in Odessa, to support the VFW by patronizing their Monthly Saturday morning Breakfast.  $5.00, all you can eat, every third Saturday of the Month.

What Is Cub Scouting PDF Print E-mail

Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped younger boys through Cub Scouting. It is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first grade through fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of age). Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting. Currently, Cub Scouting is the largest of the BSA's three membership divisions; the others are Boy Scouting and Venturing.

Cub Scouting means "doing." Everything in Cub Scouting is designed to have the boys doing things. Activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting—citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness.

Webelos Camp is always an excellent place to add to your collection of Achievements.  Archery, BB Guns, Aquanaut, just to name a few.  This year we took two first year Webelos and one second year, and as always, it was a great time.  Last year, we came back with some fun stories about the Raccoons.  This year, however, we were in a different part of the camp and Raccoons were not as many.  This year, however, the rain didn't stop our second year Webelos from being able to take part in Bouldering.  Next year, we are looking at taking a large collection of first year Webelos to camp, and hopefully a few more adults.

The Odessa Scout Recruiting Night was on Wednesday, September 25 at McQuery Elementary.  We picked up a few new Scouts at the meeting, and we had a couple of new face show up at our Pre-Camping Meeting on Monday, September 23rd.  We would like to welcome these new Scouts and new Scout Parents into Pack 286 and we hope that they have a great year in Scouting with us.

We encourage any parent who has a boy in grades 1-5 to check out Cub Scouts.  There are two Packs here in Odessa Missouri, and there are very few differences in the programs other than we meet on Monday Night and Pack 120 meets on Thursday night.  If you are uncertain where your son wants to be, have him check out both Packs and decide which is best for your and your son.
