Pack 286 is the original Cub Scout Pack in Odessa Missouri.  Founded in 1940, we are celebrating our 70th Year of Scouting in 2010!

Pack 286 meets on Mondays nights at McQuery Elementary during the School Year.  During the summer we get our Scouts involved in an assortment of activities from Cub Scout Camps to Field Trips.

If you are interested in Scouting, and you are in grades first through fifth, we invite you to come visit us anytime we are having a meeting, or visit one of the other Cub Packs that are in Odessa Missouri.

Thanks to VFW Men's Auxilary

Representatives of Pack 286 stopped in at the Men's Auxiliary (VFW Post 5675) meeting for June to present them with a plaque stating our appreciation.  The Men's Auxiliary sponsored three of our Cub Scouts to attend Cub Scout Camp this year.  We sincerely appreciate their support of Scouting and the Youth of this community.

What Is Cub Scouting

Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped younger boys through Cub Scouting. It is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first grade through fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of age). Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting. Currently, Cub Scouting is the largest of the BSA's three membership divisions; the others are Boy Scouting and Venturing.

Cub Scouting means "doing." Everything in Cub Scouting is designed to have the boys doing things. Activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting—citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness.

Upcoming Training Dates

Youth Protection and Cub Scout Leader Essentials are coming up in Big Muddy the last week in May.  Tuesday and Thursday evening in Richmond Missouri.  See Calendar for dates.

Remember:  The National Council for Boy Scouts of America has made it clear that any Adult Leader who is to have direct contact with the youth must complete all Fast Start, Youth Protection, and Leader Specific training by the end of 2010.  You will not be able to be counted as a Leader in Scouting if you do not complete your training by the deadline.

Thanks to Troop 258

On Sunday, March 28th, Gary Sims (Wolf Den Leader) presented Troop 258 with a plague to show our appreciation for them allowing us to use their Pinewood Derby Track the past two years, and helping us out by running the races.  We truly appreciate their assistance and support.

Special Thanks to Odessa VFW

UPDATE:  The VFW has graciously given us access to their banquet room for our Pinewood Derby on the last Saturday in February, and for our Blue and Gold Banquet on the last Saturday in March.  The Men's Auxiliary for the VFW has taken a very strong interest in supporting our endeavors to make 2010 and future years, the best years for Pack 286 Scouting.  We ask all our Scout Friends to help support the VFW in their endeavors, not only for being a great friend of Scouting, but for their service to our nation.

Watch our calendar for the VFW Breakfast Event held monthly on the Second Saturday.

Community Service Project 120/286

As a part of the 100th Anniversary of Scouting, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts around the United States are taking on Community Service Projects.  On Saturday, April 10th, Cub Scouts, Parents, and Leaders from Pack 120 and Pack 286 came together and cleaned up the Outdoor Classroom at McQuery Elementary.

We would like to thank everyone that came out from BOTH Packs.  Everyone did an excellent job!
